Your Day to Day
As Chief Engineer/Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the engineering, maintenance and operational integrity of a hotel consisting of the flagship voco property voco The Hague.
You are responsible for the physical integrity of all facilities and lead the technical aspects of the safety and security programs. You work closely together with all hotel departments, especially with Front Office and Housekeeping and you connect with guests daily.
This pivotal role is part of the hotel’s Management Team, reports to the General Manager and has a Supervisor the hotel supporting the delivery of all priorities.
You are responsible for
- Manage the overall maintenance of the hotel and the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems, ensuring facilities are in optimal condition.
- Leading and developing your Supervisor and engineering team. Improving their performance through mentoring, coaching, and giving feedback to create performance and development goals.
- Execute IHG’s preventive maintenance program to ensure facilities are maintained and in service.
- Building and maintaining relations with outside contacts including regulatory agencies, contractors, suppliers, and others as needed.
- Supervise (sub)contractors’ execution of repair and maintenance tasks.
- Monitoring and adjusting monthly budget and controlling expenses.
- Oversee safety protocols including BHV organization, Legionella Management, and Risk Assessments.
- Maintaining all relevant files, invoices and records that are necessary to manage the department efficiently.
- Lead a digital approach through the relevant Building Management System, Financial System and other Communication tools.
- Participating in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans.
- Leading hotel renovations and other projects, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely completion of projects within budgets.
- Attending seminars, technical trainings and keeping up to date with relevant developments and regulations in the Engineering field.
- Promoting teamwork and coordinate technical activities at high quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Ensuring a safe and secure environment for guests and team members in compliance with regulatory policies and procedures.
- We put the guest experience at the centre of everything we do. Therefore, ad-hoc duties are part of the job as required.

- Existing experience in leading a team and managing a complex building
- Flexible work approach
- Existing knowledge of engineering laws and regulations
- Active Team Member of a Management Team and a wider Hotel Team
- Speaks & writes fluent English & Dutch.
- Work experience in a hotel with a 4/5 start environment is a plus!
